The boys were ready last weekend when the Illini played their first football game of the season. All decked out in orange and blue. Horrible iphone pic but hey it's too cute not to post.

Of course Grant was ready for some Bears football too!
We had a very busy weekend and spent most of our time at the Arenzville Burgoo. We went Friday evening to watch Grant's cousin Livvy and his friends -Bronc and Vivie participate in the pageant. Grant really wanted to watch but was so distracted with the carnival rides that he hardly paid any attention to their performances. He loved the rides and I could tell it was going to be the highlight of his weekend.
After the Burgoo that night, Jay and Grant went to the Triopia football game IN THE RAIN. Grant loved it and didn't want to leave until it was over. Jay said he really enjoyed watching the scoreboard and loved the his team WON.
The next day we went back up to the Burgoo for the kids games. Grant was hesitant to participate because he said, "there are too many people watching and I don't want to do it now." After trying to encourage him to just forget about the people and have fun I told him we could just watch the other kids participate. But then the announcement was made that if you participated you would receive a quarter for each race you took part in. Grant was all about it then. He even got some dollar bills too. He was pumped after that and loved racing the others.
After the kids stuff we then went on a very long and grueling hunt for a frog for the frog and turtle race. About two weeks ago we had a tree frog that grant wanted to put in the races but it was going to be too much work for me (who knows very little about frog care) to try to keep it alive. I didn't want to continue to go to the pet store to buy live crickets for it so I convinced Grant to let it go and assured him we would find another frog before the frog races. Welp, nope we didn't. So hours before the big race was to begin the Fricke's took to a Frog Hunt at the local ponds...and came up with only muddy feet and mad moods-NO FROG! Grant was so disappointed. He had his sad face on all the way home -I told him that we could still go watch the frog races even though he didn't have a frog to put in it. He said, "no, I don't really want to go now, I just want to just stay home." Understandable -but then at quarter til 4 (the time of the races) he decided he did want to go after all. So I did a quick scramble at home to gather diaper bag, purse, shoes...etc and we jolted up to the Burgoo yet again to watch the races. Grant really enjoyed them and I am so happy he changed his mind and decided to watch. Although I felt horrible for him it was a good life lesson for him. More times than not Grant gets want he wants and rarely gets disappointed because we are always there to give him what he wants/needs...so it was good for him to know that there are times when things will not go his way. oh but NEXT YEAR it is sooo on!!! We're going to dominate that darn frog race-mark my words!
Grant loves that he not only gets to watch Cardinals baseball but now NFL on TV. Yesterday was a great day for him...the Cards and Bears won and he was elated. I have never seen a kid get so psyched about sports! the only bad thing is it does totally control his mood. If his team loses -oh boy -look out because Grant is not a happy campier. But on the other hand if his team wins he's juiced for the remainder of the day. Cute to watch really.
Lane got his fourth tooth last Sunday!!! yippee- but we are still battling a runny nose and sleepless nights so i don't know if more are on their way or if something else is going on.
Well-until next time.....
