Jason and I think that this past month we must have had a black cloud hanging over us as we have had some unexpected and unfortunate events take place. Nothing too serious, and we have both agreed, things could have been much -much worse. We started the month with Grant getting the flu bug and strep throat for about a week. He got sick the Monday after his Birthday. That was not fun! I have never seen him throw up so much before and act so sick. I am so glad we are past that as it was so sad to see him not feeling well. Not last weekend, but the weekend before Jason spent the day and night at the hospital after we went to the ER for what we thought to be a kidney stone but turned out to be an inflamed appendix. Although it was a difficult time for Jason, Grant didn't seem to mind much as he got to spend some time at Grandma and Grandpa Fricke's house. I think they spoiled him a little while he was there. Only one short week after Jason's operation to remove his appendix, we had to take Grant to the ER after he fell off a chair here at home. Grant always likes to sit on the chairs with the daycare kids-he was sitting by Cordell (his buddy) and when he went to get down he fell and broke his foot. He is in a cast for the next three weeks. He took it like a trooper though and never cried once. I guess it's a boy thing because I know I would have cried like a baby. And you would think that a cast would slow a kid down but-it hasn't. He is not only walking on it but also running! Makes a Mom nervous but at the same time I am proud of him for not letting it affect his normal play. The only part that is really difficult for him is getting a bath- as we have been instructed by the doctors to bag up his leg so the cast doesn't get wet. HE REALLY DOES NOT LIKE THIS! Maybe he will get used to it but the past few nights have not been fun when it comes to getting a bath. And it's not like we can pull off a sponge bath as he is filthy from playing outside. It's only been two days and he already has grass stains and barbecue chip stains on his cast. He's really into watching Barney right now and singing along. Just when we think he couldn't get any more funny or show anymore of his personality he totally surprises us. He has been calling us by our first names instead of Mommy and Daddy just to get a laugh. He listens to the daycare kids yell my name so he is constantly in the other end of our house yelling "Daaaaaaana!" and it's too funny not to laugh so of course the more we laugh the more he does it. The other night when we were trying to get the bag off of his cast after bath time...he was giving us a fight so we had to tag team him and hold him down to get the job done.....we needed to get the scissors out to cut the tape off and I said, "Jason just do it!"-Grant- through tears and screams, shouted, "No, Jason, don't do it, No Jaaaaason!" Again, too funny for us not to laugh out loud. He is really into repeating everything everyone says. My daycare kids are now aware of this and love to play the "you say it" game with him. Which depending on the kid-could be the worst game ever...as one of my kids told him to say "Holy Nut Balls" and sure enough he did and did again and again. This one was not humorous to me and I DID NOT laugh...but Grant sure did. He's so independent now as well. He wants to do everything by himself and gets very frustrated with himself if he can't. Especially now with his cast on. Other things we did this month (that didn't involve injuries) were: went to Aunt Vicki and Uncle Mick's Annual Crawdad Boil- Grant had a blast feeding the horses, playing with the dogs, helping the guys carry firewood, playing ball, sitting on the tractor, and pulling the wagon. He also got to spend some time with Papa Ham -he was on vacation and stopped by for a visit last week. He also got to see Papa Ham a few weeks prior as my Dad and I spent the day together and he came back to our house to play with Grant and have dinner with us. He got to meet and play with Grandma and Grandpa Fricke's new puppy, Champ. I think he really likes Champ but sometimes seems to be a bit scared. I think this is because Champ is very spunky and active which is different from how Kate was. We also went to Livvy's 3rd Birthday party at her house earlier in the month. Grant had a great time playing with Livvy and the other kids. Grant also went to the doctor for his two year check up. He did so very well. He just sat there and smiled at Dr. Lillpop and let him do his exam without any complaints. He just observed and sat there like he was 22 years old instead of 2! The doctor said he is in the 75 percentile for his height and 50 percentile for his weight. He also told us that Grant is a very healthy little boy and everything checked out great. Which is always great news for a Mom to hear (even though I already knew that, it was nice to get the confirmation from the doc.). Great Grandma Pahlmann feel and broke her hip earlier in the month so-we paid her a visit at the hospital. The day we saw her she seemed to be doing quite well. And as always Grant did the entertaining. Grant's new favorite things to eat are potato chips and breakfast bars. I guess it's a step in the right direction since he used to have a candy addition. :) We just hope this next month brings us healing and no additional trips to the ER!
