Every time we are out to eat at a fast food restaurant and the kiddos order their food we always run into the same problem. Grant is not a soda or juice drinker and will only drink milk when made to. He is strictly a water only kind of guy. When we order the kids meal we always get told that water is not an option with his kids meal. Mostly this happens at McDonalds but we have had it happen at other places before too. And just recently it happened at Subway. Subway of all places-it really surprised me. I am always bewildered by this as water should be the easiest and cheapest thing to serve to children and most certainly without question, the healthiest. Yet, every time we give his order to the worker they seriously say, "the kids meal doesn't have the option for water" or, "he can't get a water with the kids meal-just milk, chocolate milk, juice or fountain drink." And every time I explain to them that he most certainly can have a water if they just give me an empty cup. And each time Grant is standing there observing this non-sense. So society has made my child feel like an odd ball because they don't include water as an option. This has happened at kids events too! Only soda or juice boxes as an option- no water. Water, in my opinion, should always be available to kids (and adults alike) at all places and events.
Now my other child almost always orders a lemonade or an orange drink without issues. Here at home he is given water or milk...we are not a family to buy juices, sodas and such. But when given the opportunity Lane likes to choose those type of drinks. And this post is undoubtedly not
supposed to be a knock to those of you who drink sodas and juice- this is simply my opinion and rant about how insane it is that water isn't an option for kids meals. I'm hoping for change! In fact I wish they would do away with kids meals all together- but that's a whole different topic (possibly for a future blog post).
