THE FRICKES: Underwear Update

For those of you who read my Potty Party blog last week and are wondering how things are going, here is our "underwear update." Tomorrow will mark the two week mark of being diaper free for Lane. He has done so incredibly well. Actually, better than I had ever anticipated. He still has the occasional accident but the majority of the accidents are just poor timing....he still has a difficult time getting both his pants and underwear down in enough time...he is still wishing to do it all very independently...even wiping his butt. Oh my-what a sight it is. Jason took pictures of Lane's first attempt to wipe alone but I am not posting them because they will most definitely be blackmail pictures someday. They are priceless. After a full week and a day of being trapped inside the house we decided to see how Lane could handle his first outing. I was terrified it would be a disaster and was so dreading the trip but we did it...as a family we went to Aldis, Burger Board, and Walmart. We brought his potty chair with us just in case. Grant had a great idea...he said, "I know how we can make sure he doesn't have an accident on the way there....we can just pull his pants down, sit him on the potty chair and put his seat belt on around him" Ha...if only it were that simple. We did pack a towel and several changes of clothes for when or if he didn't quite make it in time...but did we need any of it? NO! He went potty on the "big potty" three separate times. We had successfully done it! We left the house and went accident free the entire time. Ah, what a sigh of relief it was to know that IT IS POSSIBLE and that he is VERY POTTY TRAINED! The next day we took him to church and he went twice there too -in the "big potty" and he loved washing his hands afterwards because they have a cool step stool there for little ones to use. We then left the boys with Roger and Sandy so we could celebrate Valentine's day. Jay and I went to see a movie (Endless Love-good movie) did a bit of shopping at the mall and then went to dinner at Alexander's Steakhouse. I worried quite a bit on how Lane would do away from home and with the distraction of all the fun things to do and play with at Grandma and Grandpa's house but he went all day that day accident free again! He is pooping and peeing in the potty consistently and is doing amazingly well. We may even be approaching the point of no pull-ups soon too, as he doesn't like to have a wet pull up at night and last night actually woke us up so we could change him into dry ones. It feels good to know that we are really on the down hill side of all of this potty training stuff. We need to still work on getting him to practice pulling down his pants independently
