We had a very busy Christmas vacation...it's so depressing to think that it's all over with now. We had a list of things we MUST get done before Christmas and I am happy to say we successfully completed it.
We drove to Roodhouse to see the lights around the lake. Both Grant and Lane really enjoyed it. We thought we would venture around Jacksonville afterwards to continue viewing some light displays but we realized that only minutes after leaving Roodhouse that both boys were cashed out in the backseat so we went home instead.
We also had it on the list to bake and decorate Christmas cookies. Unfortunately I would choose the one day we have a power outage to bake. That was frustrating but we got through it fine.
Last Sunday we got to watch little Grant preform in the church Christmas program. He had two lines to memorize and say "Sin destroyed the perfect relationship between God and his creation" and "While they were there, the time came for her to be delivered." He said them perfectly. Before church, Jason and I had a laugh about how I cried last year during his performance and we chalked it up to me still being hormonal and emotional after just having Lane only a few short weeks prior however-I CRIED AGAIN this year. I was just beaming with pride and I couldn't help but think about how blessed we are to have such a smart, sweet, and lovable kid like Grant in our lives.
We celebrated Christmas with the Curry's and the Fricke's on Christmas Eve. This year we hosted the event because Roger and Sandy have a home improvement project (actually they are building a whole new addition to their home) they are in the middle of and couldn't host. It was nice to have everyone over to celebrate Christmas. Livvy and Grant had a great time playing with their new toys and just hanging out. Levi loved our playroom and seemed to enjoy the old toys in there more so than his new toys. We finished the day by attending church service that evening. Grant of course had to sit with Grandma and Grandpa and Livvy -and Lane was so exhausted from the day that he just sat still on my lap. It was actually really nice as it was the first time in over a year that I actually got to listen to the entire sermon without interruption.
That night we went home and laid out cookies and milk for Santa. We also didn't forget his reindeer this year as we threw some carrot sticks outside too. We unwrapped our new Christmas pajamas (we each get a new pair every Christmas Eve -it's kind of our tradition now) and got the kiddos to bed. Then the fun began.
The next morning we got to SLEEP IN! Merry Christmas to me...we never get to sleep past 6. We got to sleep in until 6:30!!!! We went downstairs to discover that Santa had been there! Grant was pumped. Lane was clueless. Grant was so incredibly sweet. He saw his packages from Santa and started to unwrap his first gift but then stopped midway through and got his gifts to us out. He had wrapped up odds and ins that he found around the house. Jason got a ticket stub to the Illini game we went to and a picture of the St. Louis Cardinals he had town out of something. He gave Lane a rice krispie treat and some pictures he drew and I got some pictures as well. It was seriously the most precious thing I have seen in a long time. We kept telling him that we could wait to open our gifts from him until after he saw what Santa had brought him but he insisted! It was a great Christmas....we enjoyed playing and spending time at home as a family the rest of the day. I started to feel icky but the end of the night and I am certain it was just exhaustion setting in as I felt fine the next day.
Now that Christmas is over -we look forward to counting down the New Year and starting 2013 out right!
