Family Fun

The Fricke Family had a wonderful weekend! Saturday we took Grant to Kids Fun Fest at the Prairie Capital Convention Center in Springfield. He enjoyed bouncing in numerous bounce houses -which was terrific because he's been bottling up several months worth of energy. He had a great time releasing some there. In addition to the many bounce houses -Grant got to sit in a real Firetruck, see the balloon guy make animal balloons, play games, eat ice cream, pet puppies, and see Curious George and Clifford The Big Red Dog. He had a fantastic time-by the end though we were all ready to leave. There were crying/whining kids everywhere -tantrums were being thrown left and right and the place got to be a bit crazy.
The following day we took Grant to see The Emperor's New Clothes -a live performance put on byt he Jacksonville Theater Guild (thanks to Keri Mason for the tickets). Ok, I had some doubts going into this that I may not be making the best choice as a mother to really take my not-even-3 year old to a live production but my doubts continutied as we sat in church Sunday morning and was reminded by the idea that Grant as still yet to master the art of whisphering. Oh, he's able -and knows how and what whisphering is but still has not yet been able to remember or care. Needless to say...we went to the play and he was entertained for about the first 20 minutes ...all while making the comment "Mommy, I can't see the tv" and "is the movie over yet?" The more he talked the louder he got. We were tempted to just get up and leave considering the tickets were free and there would be no skin off our backs if we did but suddenly-(with 10 minutes left in the show) HE GOT IT...and started whispering and watching. Note to self....don't try that one again for the next few years. Still had a wonderful time though. This weekend was filled with FAMILY TIME. Something we are fortunate to get quite a bit of. Today we got more. Beings that it's Presidents Day -banks were closed which meant Jay got to hang with us. I ended up with only two little daycare kiddos today who left right after lunch to go skating...so we gained some more FAMTIME. Sooooooo nice to be active -get out-do things-again, as if I haven't said it enough. I AM SOOOOO READY FOR SPRING. Maybe if I say it enough times it will come quicker! :)
