 Surfing

Well, I could sit here and tell you that we had a wonderfully blissful family get away over the weekend but that would not be entirely true. Did we have spurts of fun here and there? Sure! But was it relaxing or worth the effort...probably not. We started out great -Lane fell asleep almost immediately and Grant was occupied with his portable DVD player. All was great until about 30 minutes from our destination.  The classic "are we there yet?" question was asked about 1,000 times and the "I'm hungry" comments were starting up too.  Then Grant started to have a complete melt down! I am talking -COMPLETE- crazy cry like he was freaking on FIRE or something. When I finally got him calm enough to ask him what was going on he explained to me that he had an itch on his bum bum that he couldn't scratch.

It went like this:

Me: "what on earth is wrong? why are you freakin out?"
Grant: "I have an itch!"
Me: "itch it then!"
Grant: "I can't it's on my bum bum and I am sitting on it."
Me: "well, try to lean forward and scratch it"
Grant: (long screeching scream) "I CAN'T"

So yep, I wanted the insanity to stop so I crawled my fat butt back in the back of our compact car and scratched my son's ass! So needless to say the start of the trip was off to a really relaxing and enjoyable time. I felt extremely blessed that Lane was as precious as he was...he didn't make a peep the entire 2 hour ride.  Literally , not a peep. I guess Lane and Grant had a little role reversal action going on. Grant was acting like a 6 month old and Lane like a four year old. I will add that I understand that it's a long long ride in a car to St. Louis but good golly miss molly I thought he was going to lose his brains!

After the enjoyable car ride...we then went to Shaw Park which was a very nice park however it was 99 degrees outside and blasting hot.  They did have a water spray section which Grant thoroughly enjoyed. Until we got back in the car and we heard him scream like a mad man again. He was now screaming, "THIS DOESN'T FEEL GOOD! I AM ALL WET!" So in the Galleria Mall parking lot I made him drop his drawers and get a fresh set of clothes on.

We did enjoy some fun times in the hotel -jumping on the bed, swimming, putting puzzles together and playing with baby Lane.  Grant loved swimming in the pool and so did Lane. I figured Lane would HATE his first time in the pool but he just laughed, smiled, and splashed around. So fun to watch! Lane literally didn't cry the ENTIRE trip...he just sat there and smiled and watched.

Ok I am going to admit a very poor parenting move on my part right now. I did something that I am ashamed of (but apparently not ashamed of enough to keep it off my blog). I caved to Grant's begging for a new toy set. We went into the Disney Store and he found an Avengers Action Hero Set that he really wanted. Both Jason and I stayed strong for a good 15 minutes and continued to say "NO" and explained that he did not deserve a new toy because of his behavior but Grant is such an great negotiator he said, "I promise I will be good and if I am not you can take them away from me."  UGH! I caved and now I wish I would have made a better parenting choice but I didn't!  In addition to my own guilt -Jason added another dose of guilt by calling me a name -a name of someone we have both agreed has the crappiest parenting skills (obviously I am not going to write her name on here as that would just be WRONG).  Boy did that tick me off.
Even though it was a bad move at the time it worked out brilliantly- it did work...he was AWESOME on the way home.  He played with his new toys all the way back home....and didn't have issues.  And he has been really good since.

In conclusion, we did have some good family time but I had to fight back my own temper tantrums and tears at times.  Next time...I want to go ALONE please!
