Grant's Reaction

Grant's Reaction to our news. Taken directly from the journal I am keeping for Baby #2.

May 5, 2011,
Before I left for my doctor's appointment, we bent down (on Grants level) and told him that later that night that we have a secret/surprise to tell him. He looked right at me and said, "is the baby in your tummy or Daddy's tummy?" This completely floored us because we thought we were being extra cautious and descret around him -so he either is smart enough to figure it out or he is some kind of intuition about you. After your Dad got home from work and the daycare kids left, we sat Grant down and said, "Do you know what the surprise is?" He responded by saying, "a baby?" We explained to him that he would be having a brother or sister sometime. We told him that my belly would be getting bigger and that he would be a big brother. We asked him if he wanted to have a brother or sister and he said, "a sister." I rephrased the question and asked, "do you want the baby that's growing in Mommy's tummy to be a little boy or a little girl baby?" He said, "a girl baby." I explained to him that God is the one who puts baby's in Mommy's tummies and we get whatever he chooses to give us...that it might be a boy. He then said, "ok, well you have a boy baby in your tummy and I will have a girl baby in my tummy (while patting his stomach)." We read him some books I had bought about being a big brother and how a baby will change things a little bit. He seemed to enjoy these and seemed deeply interested in what we were telling him. We then told him that we had to start thinking of names for the baby. He came up with "Grandpa" and "Mommy" so we explained to him that he had to choose a name that no one else already had. He thought for a while and then said, "how about POOP?" We had a good laugh about this. We then told him that it was time to tell his grandparents about our surprise. he said, "oh the baby surprise?" He then said, "are you going to put the baby in a box with a lid, take the lid off and say SURPRISE?"
